SPECTRUM's peer support groups are great opportunities to meet other people, to talk about whatever you currently have on your mind, and to make new friends! These events are ideal for those that want to socialize in an 2SLGBTQ+ friendly setting. The Transgender Peer Support Group is an informal, discussion based, drop-in program. This group is a space for anyone that identifies within the trans/gender variant umbrella, including but not limited to: transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, gender fluid, non-binary, genderless, agender, non-gendered, third gender, two spirit, bigender, transman, transwoman, neutrois, questioning and beyond.
Volunteers for the Trans Peer Support Group act as co-hosts and are required to have social and group facilitation skills, along with empathy and sensitivity towards the subject matter. Their duties include welcoming visitors, introducing them to other participants, informing them about SPECTRUM resources, and guiding or directing conversations as needed. They also foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their experiences, maintain cleanliness of the space after each session, and manage time effectively to ensure the sessions run according to schedule. They are also responsible for representing SPECTRUM and encouraging peer support among participants.
